Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our 10th Annual Operation Surf Santa Cruz program, originally scheduled to run April 13th – 19th, 2020, in response to COVID-19 concerns.

Operation Surf is taking all recommended precautionary measures to protect the health of our community, as well as complying with the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control to cancel gatherings of 250 or more, and the Santa Cruz Department of Health advisory to cancel events with gatherings of 50 or more individuals.

We’re closely monitoring the situation and following guidance from public health officials and government agencies so we can make ongoing assessments and stay in constant communication with all stakeholders to provide information and guidance as developments unfold. We apologize for the disappointment this will cause to our participants, volunteers, supporters, and community who have all worked so hard to make this program a success. We feel that this is the most prudent choice at this time to ensure the health and safety of our entire community.

We currently plan to reschedule Operation Surf Santa Cruz 2020 at a later date so we can continue our mission to channel the healing powers of the ocean to restore hope, renew purpose, and revitalize community for our nation’s wounded.

This program is held in support of the men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedom. Wounded active-duty and veteran service members from various branches of the U.S. military will take part in an epic life-changing experience at beaches across the Santa Cruz area. Through the healing power of the ocean, surfing, and camaraderie, these wounded heroes, to whom we owe so much, will overcome challenges and build a new understanding of their personal potential.

For many participants, the trip to Operation Surf is their first time leaving the hospital since being injured in Iraq or Afghanistan, making this unique and highly effective healing tool an invaluable part of their early recovery. At previous Operation Surf Santa Cruz programs, the wounded heroes have been astounded at the outpouring of love and appreciation from the Santa Cruz community, our generous sponsors, and many volunteers. Several opportunities exist for community involvement.

The help of our local community members make this week possible, along with our sponsors who are the force behind our waves. In addition, volunteers at the beach, in the water, and in other key support roles are an invaluable component of our cause. We invite you to be a part of this amazing surf adventure.
