Elizabeth W Barrett

Elizabeth W. Barrett is dedicated to her vocation as a licensed marriage and family therapist, with over 25 years in the helping professions as a clinician, coach, and educator. Elizabeth is a Lecturer in the Psychology and Child Development Department at Cal Poly, SLO and for 15 years she has hosted her weekly radio show and podcast, A Conversation with the Reluctant Therapist, on Central Coast Public Radio KCBX – focusing on alternative forms of mental health care and helping others to find new ways to thrive. She came to Operation Surf thanks to her neighbor (and fellow advisory board member, Kevin Watkins). After watching the documentary Resurface, interviewing Van for the radio show, getting to know Amanda and spending time at an event, Elizabeth was whole heartedly committed to supporting the beautiful work and mission of Op Surf. “I believe deeply that when one feels hopeless or has lost their way, experiencing something awe-inspiring, like a week of surfing in community, surrounded by love and encouragement, can ignite a spark in that individual that will lead to continued healing and growth. Operation Surf provides the spark that motivates participants to continue seeking opportunities for wellness after they return home.” Elizabeth finds her wellness in the water (ocean, lake or pool), biking, hiking, hitting tennis balls, and time spent with her husband, children, 2 amazing grandchildren and 3 kitties.
